World War 2 | cinematic battle scene

World War 2 | cinematic battle scene
August 10th, 1942. Two Brave US pilots in their P40s attempt to Neutralize the Japanese destroyer off the coast of Alaska.
The story is completely fictional. The entire scene was animated and rendered in Blender 3.1. All of the scenes were rendered in the real-time renderer EEVEE.
The pictures above show the process of 3D modelling, texturing, animating, rendering and final compositing.
Some of the challenges I faced when working on this project were :
I had to reduce my render time by optimizing various parts of the scene, the mountains were decimated to reduce the number of polygon count, I also used a texture for the ocean wave.
The explosion effect was achieved by importing an explosion clip with an alpha channel and placing it in the scene parenting it to one of the planes.  this saved render hours, compared to using volumetrics to simulate explosions.
I hope you had fun watching the video as I did making it,  feel free to leave a comment I would really appreciate it and it would help me perform better on my next CGI short film project.
I drew a lot of inspiration from watching WW2 clips on youtube, and the film Dunkirk influenced my colour grading.
